Essential Network Maintenance Notice

Date: Tuesday 7 March 2017

Time: 9:30pm – 10:30pm

Scope: Core Firewall Upgrade

On Tuesday 7 March 2017, Service Birmingham will undertake some essential network maintenance - upgrading our core firewall.

You may encounter slight disruption to the BGfL network during this time so please be mindful of these works taking place during this period.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the Service Desk on [email protected] or call 0121 303 5100.

I like the slight disruption bit and the massive amount of notice you've been given. I got this mail just now 10 minutes after they've supposed to have finished. Dunno why... left them 4 years ago.

Good luck. Brace.... brace... brace... that is if you have a connection to read this :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Oh yes, for sure I agree.

They say it's essential, maybe it's something urgent (if not done could be detrimental in the working day) that needs doing before the rest of the week.

Fond memories of when that core firewall was installed a few years back :peep: and it basically ground to a halt, several days running. We had actually signed our agreement with our current suppliers the week before, time flies when everything is working well.

Aaaaaahhh. The bad old days. Thats the same core firewall that they weren't able to open up for the Google Play store after we spent £4000 on tablets.

"Google uses dynamic IP addressing for the play store. Phone us every time you want to use it"

I'm getting that word again ........... the word is............ B******s

Arguably you could say if the upgrade goes bad on a Saturday, then it doesn't really make too much of a difference if it's done Tuesday night! Either way you're probably only going to find out the next working day once it's back under load.

I'm pretty sure valuable lessons were learnt in the past not to have a repeat again, but time will tell ;)
