Disabling Internal Speakers

Good afternoon

 

Having just replenished a room full of PCs the teachers are starting to mention that they all play sound out of the internal speakers, this becomes a problem if multiple students are listening to multiple things without headphones.

 

Is there a way to disable the internal speakers but leave the sound working when headphones are plugged in?

HPs and Lenovos usually allow you to disable the internal speakers in the BIOS. Not tried on anything newer with UEFI but I imagine it's the same.

If you go to control panel>sound>playback, are the 2 audio outputs listed separately? If so you could disable one, next question is how to scale that, gpp reg edit perhaps

By far the easiest way is going to be unplug them internally from the mboard!

You can do the same with dell machines too. Use this and you can push the settings out via SCCM (or others).

+1 for disconnect from the motherboard - quick, easy to rectify and impossible for anyone to change discreetly. I did this on my old Mac network to stop students playing the change volume sound throughout the lesson, was quite amusing watching their puzzled faces on the first lesson after I did it!

On laptops we disconnected speaker from M/Brd. HP's it was possible to go in BIOS and disable.
