We have a large Junior school who are looking at SLG. I think it's a bit overkill for a primary school. This is what the head wants to do:

 

Looking for a way for parents to:

 

1) See hwk set online

2) See rewards / consequences given each day

3) Be able to change their details online (doctors / Tel number / address)

4) Issue reports online

5) Share progress data online

6) Be able to take register on iPad on playground

7) Be able to look up any child on iPad rapidly

 

They can use the Teacher App for some of it.

 

But any recommendations on software? They have hosted SIMs.

 

Would eSchools | School websites, VLE and Communication packages for schools do the above?

SLG is coming end of life, being replaced by a new Parent and Student app, take a look at them.

 

For staff Capita also do the Teachers' app but we scrapped it as our staff found it too fiddly and doesn't work on iPhone...?!!?

The teachers App doesn't work in iPhone, they've restricted it in the apple store so you can't even download it.

 

However it works beautifully on android phones (though unsupported).

 

But I agree with Capita that you need a reasonable sized screen and no phone is really big enough for it.

 

Of course the teachers App isn't for parents.

We've used SLG here from a secondary school prospective, but I agree it's overkill for a primary bit will do everything you listed.

 

There's probably some cheaper alternatives available - Insight and SchoolCOMMS for two. I think Groupcall have recently brought their own similar system out too recently.

As @SYLvr suggests have a look at Insight from Tasc Software we use this here is reasonably priced, also support is very good although think you need to host this yourself but this may have changed but setup is pretty straightforward. Can also do parents Evening bookings, link in own documents or web pages etc.
