north-ict Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Hi Peeps, Just need a bit of guidance need to get a few wireless cards for some old RM ecoquiets. the mainboard is this one. http://support.rm.com/_RMVirtual/Media/Downloads/i45GMt-HR_Manual.pdf I did a test purchase of a single card form a supplier however it did not fit being the incorrect PCI type could anyone point me in the right direction i think it might be hard to source since its good few years old? Thanks in advance
3s-gtech Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 What you need is a PCI-Express card, not PCI. The distinction is a very big one. Some x16 PCI-e slots may not play well with anything other than a graphics card, though the standard should allow any PCI-e card to work in that slot. I would avoid USB adaptors as USB 2.0 is not well suited to running a network adaptor for general usage (as it's half duplex). Something like TP-Link TL-WN881ND 300mbps Wireless N Pci Express Adapter - Ebuyer should work (and yes, the card doesn't fit the slot - PCI-e allows for this and a x1 card will work in a x16 slot). 1
Chris_ Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 The board only has a PCI-Express (16x) slot, but this will accomodate 8x, 4x and 1x cards. Something like this should work, it includes a low profile bracket: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 N900 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter - Ebuyer 1
