And the teachers who let three students leave the classroom to “find a technician” when only one of them needs a reset.... and often in the last 15mins of a lesson..... some teachers need sorting out as well!

2 minutes x 30 = 1hour. Wouldn't be wasting my time with that, basically you would spend 2 hours a day on password resets.

However it does then give you the ammunition to say to the powers that be that this is an issue that needs to be addressed from the highest level.

I recently highlighted the need for students to remember credentials to the Principal and they were happy to support my campaign to have it treated like a piece of equipment, where there are established rules and sanctions for forgetting it. If they turn up to a lesson not equipped for that lesson then they are in breach of the home school agreement.

From my experience some of the students "forget" their passwords just to skip about half hour to visit the me, then the toilet, then some friends in other lessons, then check their food credit and then slow get back to lesson. I normal only do password resets on request of an e-mail from a member of staff to try and stop the students leaving the lessons. With the IT teachers they have access to Impero and able to change passwords that way as those lessons need them to do it more.

Other steps we take is to write down the name of the student and the name of the teacher from that lesson and at then end of each week e-mail the list the SLT in charge of IT, then they will have a chat with the teacher(s) and ask them to send e-mail requests if a teacher is on the list a couple of times and if a student is on the list to much that student would get a detention.

I built a program in C# for staff to reset learner passwords then delegated permission to the student ou in Active Directory to a security group tutors were in that gave them permission to set passwords.

I have posted about this in the past, have a mailbox (Password_Rest@.......) make it so teachers (Staff) are the only ones who can send mail to it. Monitor it (the mailbox) with a PowerShell script get your teachers to send a mail to that account and CC the student (this is the student who has forgot their password) scope the account that runs the script permissions only to be able to change student passwords (OU Level/ or if you have not split out your users then you need to do this by using a AD attribute). Have the script generate a random password set it in AD and mail it back to the teacher who requested the password reset. You can also automatically raise the ticket in your ticketing system or whatever else you want to do to monitor what's going on. To be honest I would be looking at using Flow for this now and when I get some time I may well just do that. Edited by HPlum78

The Teachers have the ability to change passwords themselves, we do get some that still send them along. So we create a ticket for the teacher, email the teacher reminding them they can do it and cc in the person above them.

Seems to stop them for a while.

But Students just want to get out of lesson.
