Is it legal to have personal email addresses of students on our exchange mail server

Hi

One of a teacher has asked me to create a mail group and want to add 30 personal email addresses of the students to this mail group. I can do this by creating 30 mail contacts and add all the contacts to the mail group that i create.

I can hide the contact on the exchange server, but is it this legally allowed to have the personal email addresses of students on our school exchange server?

Thanks and any suggestions much appreciated.

I wouldn't think its illegal to have them on the exchange. But it would be a serious Safegaurding issue to have staff emailing students personal accounts.

Legal, I can't see why not. A good idea? Nope nope nope. If the students don't have school email addresses, perhaps now is the time to consider it. I know this solution shouldn't show the individual addresses to anyone, but there has to a line of separation and I think that's here.

Tell the teacher to create a contacts group him/herself (or show them how to do it), this would remove yourself from the situation.

If its a group of personal emails and not school issued ones then this would not be the reply I would give.
