mikkydoos Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Hey all... (Is this in the right place?? - Dunno) Anyone got a recommendations for a nice CCTV cam for my house? ~SD card storage ~Motion sensing ~IR for night ~Battery power???? ~Must be super small Dont want to run ethernet cable to it for power or use a DC adapter. Cheers in advance
tekins Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I installed Netgear ARLO cameras for my parents, very simple, wireless and battery powered, free (limited) cloud storage, nice app to configure them. I wouldn't say they were super small, but they aren't huge.
jinnantonnixx Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 (edited) If you want an easy life, go for a well-known brand with some sort of service and support behind them. I bought a no-name wifi cam off ebay for about £20 which was a devil to configure. The actual camera works very well, but there's zero support and you're totally on your own. The P2P function failed dismally, so I set the camera up to be an RTSP server, and I managed to get it to work with the Onvifer client. The emai motion alerts were problematic, neither Gmail or Yahoo accepted emails directly from the camera. I had to use an intermediate SMTP relay hop to relay the alerts to my Gmail. SMTP2GO: Reliable & Scalable Email Delivery Service which is actually very good, and you get 1000 email relays free every month. I like a challenge. In short, if you want an easy life, don't buy a no-name camera. Do check this out - Angelcam allows you to monitor your camera(s) through their website. They have a cloud recording feature which might be useful. https://www.angelcam.com/ Edited January 19, 2017 by jinnantonnixx 1
Popular Post 6Foot2 Posted January 19, 2017 Popular Post Posted January 19, 2017 Hopefully, your neighbors will be kinder to your newly installed camera than this Russian guy's neighbours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBFykSuY-d4 6
Trapper Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 It's not real, but I've got this screwed onto the back of my house facing down the garden. Even put the fake part cable into a fake part hole with not fake silicon putty. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Surveillance-Wireless-Monitoring-Equipment-Simulated/dp/B01CYCYV88/ref=sr_1_14?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1484845799&sr=1-14 The battery runs for months without needing replacement, and the red light on/off every 10 seconds looks in pitch black quite effective. It's so high on my house that even if you trip the back lights on with the sensor it still looks pukka. The worst thing I've seen is my Dad when he screwed his old Tom Tom onto the shed at the top of his garden. I have no idea what effect he was going for, but it looks like what it is. An old sat nav screwed onto a shed! I keep meaning to look and see if there any RaspPi projects for CCTV cameras using old webcams, or old phones (I've got an iPhone 3G doing sod all). I've also got a Synology NAS so I have no problems recording and remote viewing.
Edu-IT Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Ring Video might do what you need with the exception of SD card.
2097 Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Hikvision , They are the only Cheapish cameras i would use. One like this Hikvision DS-2CD2542FWD-IWS Wireless 4MP Mini Dome IR POE IP Camera With Audio | eBay I have the older version of that camera and the audio is great on the internal built in Mic.
Danp Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I have one of these http://amzn.eu/4qj43fk wirelessly connected to my Raspberry Pi3 which is also running via wifi so I can keep it tucked away. Motion detention enabled, images saved to device and uploaded to Dropbox. I can also view it live online. 1
ricki Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Have a look at the dlink cameras they do all sorts including ones for baby and pet monitoring Richard

Works well, can upload to SD card, NAS or cloud storage. I'm using one in school to do a timelapse of the demolition of our old building. 1
mikkydoos Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 Cheers guys. The little Netgear Arlos look OK. Wondering where I could mount them. Its to cover my driveway mostly. Too high and it won't see faces. Too low and its gone!
Haptic Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Don't worry about it, they come with nifty wee magnetic mounts so you can put them anywhere, then tilt/adjust/pan as best fits. Joe 1
dapaulio Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I quite like the unifi surveillance. Great value for a quality product
novastorm Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Canary is good to home security. https://canary.is/
