Delete file that is open in another program

Hi all,

 

maybe a really stupid question but I need to delete a file that is on the network and available to all staff, but keep getting "the action can't be completed because the file is open in another program"

 

As all staff have access it could be open anywhere in school.

 

Any ideas?

On the server that is hosting the file, you could look and see who has it open. It should narrow it down for you.

 

You can also terminate the connection to the open file from there and delete it... but if they were to save the file again, it would be back.

Go to your file data server and open up share and storage manager > manage open files

Then close it from there

Thank you very much, logged onto the file server and followed what you said and its gone. I must be having a mental block day.
