Hi,

I see on the Becta website that they have listed their 10 preferred Learning Platform Services Framework suppliers, namely

Core Projects and Technologies (UK) Ltd - TALMOS

Etech Group - studywiz

Fronter - Fronter VLE

Netmedia Education - MyGrid4Learning

Pearson Education Ltd - Pearson Learning Platform

Ramesys - Assimilate VLE

RM Education plc - RM Kaleidos

Serco Learning Solutions Ltd - Facility Learning Platform

UniServity - UniServity Learning Platform

Viglen Ltd - Viglen

I currently use Moodle with absolutely no desire to change but I believe that we will eventually use one of these and have been asked to look into them for performance/price etc.

Not liking the 'scare' stories on here from others getting pushy salesmen forcing them to accept their VLE. Dont like the sound of that at all.

Just really looking for feedback from any of you on prices etc that these salesmen have come up with for their VLE. Any feedback I get 'might' persuade them upstairs not to invite them round and therefore I won't have to listen to them.

Thanks in advance

Moodle is an 'Approved' platform. Stick with it. As it is open source it is not corporate based and therefore does not have a 'supplier'. Again, Becta have approved this so don't worry.

Talking of Moodle I had somebody tell me earlier that they'll not be using Moodle because it's too much hassle. Instead they would rather print out everything.

Is their further info on this?

Much as I hate to disagree with DB (and being a staunch Moodle advocate myself), Moodle isn't authorized in the strictest sense of the word. Becta set out various conditions and, because Moodle is open source, no-one was there to fight it's case. As far as the learning platform specification is concerned Moodle can do all, and more, than those who jumped through the hoops. Becta have privately accepted this. It is also the reason why CLEO and numerous other broadband consortia have moved over to Moodle. If you understand Moodle and are happy with it then stick with it. In the end all of the learning platforms should do the same job.

Would you trust some of the organizations that have been authorized>

Thanks for the link DB. Unfortunately our LA isn't as switched on as Lancashire; we are still waiting for a decision to be made by the LA for who are the approved supplies. (Currently in the process of tendering).

But we have been running moodle for the past two years and with interest show by our feeder primary’s and middle schools at a recent meeting are hoping to roll moodle out to them.

some of these require a small amendment as to the VLE used and changes in company name

Core Projects and Technologies (UK) Ltd - TALMOS - Core used to be known as Azzurri

Fronter - Fronter VLE but sold as Northgate MLE in BSF contracts

Pearson Education Ltd - got on the Becta framework with the Uniservity product

Serco Learning Solutions Ltd - Teknical ?

UniServity - clc - Connected Learning Community

Thanks for updating the VLE names. I just pulled that list off the Becta website, thought that they of all people should have got the names right.

Haven't really got an answer to my original post:

"Just really looking for feedback from any of you on prices etc that these salesmen have come up with for their VLE"

Any help at all would be great.

Cheers
