timbo343 Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 The front wing makes the car look a more aggressive and the lower rear wing makes the car look lower. Waiting to see the others next week to see what others have thought of.
CHiLL Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Yeah, I am liking that sort of design. I really got into F1 in the early 2000's, when imo, the cars looked really good being small and low. They just looked fast...but then with the introduction of the higher rear wing, the wider front wing and the longer nose...they started to look more cumbersome and slower. It really did put me off the designs. I'd love to see Red Bull's design, as I think their matted paint last year looked amazing.

After the RoC there was an old program (from 2014 / 2015) on SSF1, i cant remember what i was called, but they too discussed how back in 2007 / 2008 was possibly the best time of F1. The cars were full of aero, there were no artificial overtaking aids, etc. They went on to say that some of the best racing was when there were fewer overtakes however drivers took more of a risk. They showed Lewis at Spa coming from so far back and made the move stick into the hairpin. Some of the presenters were saying they dont like to see lots of little overtakes and would prefer to see less overtakes but the overtakes would be the ones we remember. Also, some of the tracks need the tarmac replacing with gravel traps. Give say a few feet of run off but then it should be gravel so drivers at least have a chance to correct their mistake. sonofsanta Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Sauber have posted renders as well. Liking the livery; very classic 90s. Be good if we could see it a little further up the field again from time to time 1
timbo343 Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 Ooooh i do like the livery of that. Much better than their flat blue. It looks like they are celebrating something.. 25 years??
synaesthesia Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Still a shame about the stubby crap noses they still insist on putting on!
Al_NetSupport Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Liking both the Sauber and the Williams, definitely a bit of a retro feel to the car's livery. Fingers crossed the rest follow in a similar style. Cars look more aggressive and racy this year. Did i hear McLaren were going Orange as part of the colour scheme ???
teejay Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 (edited) The Williams looks fantastic, as it has since they have had Martini sponsorship. The Sauber does look great, a bit like the fag packet liveries of old, maybe that's intentional. Edited February 20, 2017 by teejay
Norphy Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Did i hear McLaren were going Orange as part of the colour scheme ??? It's a possibility as orange was their colour before they went with Marlboro as their main sponsor. However, they often used to use an orange livery during pre-season tests when they went silver so who knows? 1
tg12 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 The Williams was a bit underwhelming IMO, but that could be something to do with the terrible quality renders put out. But that Sauber though...
Al_NetSupport Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 leaked photo of the McLaren ? http://tuttomotorsport.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/McLaren-Honda-20172-800x445.jpg
sonofsanta Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 That'd be amazing if it was real. Source?
Al_NetSupport Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 That'd be amazing if it was real. Source? I agree. It's been on quite a few twitter feeds, this is one https://www.garow.me/media/1452925270311141666_4625318764 some say its leaked, some say its fan based ( so i guess risk someone has come up with a rendering of what they would like). Twitter user Forumla_gp has a few images too https://www.garow.me/users/formula_gp/4625318764 - probably end up being silver and boring again.
L3OUGH Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 They've just done the reveal. They are streaming it live on their YouTube channel.
CAM Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 It looks like a can of a particularly popular brand of cider turned on it's side and given wheels....
tg12 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Another fan of the Renault. Some very interesting design choices with certain bits of the car too (yes, I'm that sort of person.)
teejay Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Like the Renault, looks much better than last year.....but the drivers overalls just look terrible :-(
Al_NetSupport Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Force India car has been released too http://media.crash.net/original/AU1536753.jpg
timbo343 Posted February 23, 2017 Author Posted February 23, 2017 I thought i posted on here just after it was released. I personally dont like it. The shark fin is too big, it looks boring but if they've exploited something with the front nose, fair play to them.

I agree, its not the best release for 2017 i have seen, and the fin does distort the design. I think Force India will struggle this year given all the behind the scenes issues they have had. 4th overall from last year is a tough ask this year.
DaveJ2717uk Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Shark fins Aghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! hate them..

No worries, i probably didnt press post via the app thats why it didnt post. During the release, they were saying they were hoping to challenge for 3rd in constructors and that 2017 will be a development year, the car they take to Austrailia will be different to the car in Spain. Something tells be they have the base but waiting to show their hand in terms of the aero. 1
