Badaz52 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Hi everyone, I suspect that many of us are still running Windows 7 as our main OS? I'm looking into Windows 10 as a whole school deployment and I already have some test machines in operation in our staff room which seem to be working OK. I just wondered what version is generally recommended for schools? I assume Education but there is Enterprise too. I've been told to avoid Pro though? Has anyone fully migrated to Windows 10?

Joanne Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I went with Windows 10 LTSB but my next image will be Education flavour. We're all 10 now except for office staff and it's working well. Had some bizzarre issues with Office 2016, but that's about it really.

Joanne Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 There was one instance where none of the children in class could save. When you clicked on 'browse' to get file explorer up, nothing happened. The only way I could get it to save was to close excel, reopen excel, open, recovered documents and then save.
Sagima Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 We're almost there with Windows 10. Went with 1511 LTSB and our next image will be based on the 1607 LTSB I imagine. We couldn't get the start menu to do what we wanted so we went with Classic Start in the end One of the smoothest rollouts I've ever been a part of. Not had any issues with office 2016 so far - but we're a bit further behind with the rollout for that
kennysarmy Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Still testing testing testing here...1607 Edu version deployed out using MDT One thing I can't seem to crack at the moment is the ability to add Russian Language in to my MDT task sequence so playing around with permissions to allow students to add Russian Language as and when they need it. After Christmas I'm going to get some students to test our build by doing some penetration testing and if that goes well I 'might' run out some images over Easter to the library and a few other areas.

Does that work in schools? I'd have thought they'd keep the vulnerabilities to themselves to exploit at a later date.

I have just recently created an MDT task for W10 Education x64 which we shall roll out in future on an as-needed basis. Also going to start rolling out Office 2016 as a replacement for 2013 since we have completed testing with SIMS.
