Hello,

Does anyone know if its possible to lock down a Chromecast in some way please? I basically want to prevent people connecting to the wrong ones and connecting the a device in another room!

Thanks

I haven't used my Chromecast for a while, but I believe (from memory) the PIN is only needed (or available) when it's running in Guest Mode. The problem with that mode is that the Chromecast creates it's own WiFi AP. That isn't an issue in a house, it would be a nightmare in a school (with lots of them + lots of APs).

You could probably lock down the multicast to local zones (assuming a L3 switch)?

edit: actually, forget that, probably not a good idea for devices on WiFi as they'll drift between APs.

Not really, seems like there would be some kind of magic ACL scripting needed

Website where you picked your consumer network device, and in the background it sent commands to the switches/wifi to make that device appear visible to you, pity there's no standard commands

If it's a digital display, chromebit + single kiosk device management licence, if it's a screen in a hall etc, chromebit + wireless kb+mouse/chromecast for education

^ Pretty much. You can configure* them to point to a specific URL if you wanted to show certain content (say you're running a museum and using Chromecasts to deliver specific content to different TVs), but that's about it. It's (well, that and the wired interface option) why we went for Apple TVs instead.

*developer license and a bit of fiddling required.
