Non Domain PCs keep forgetting mapped drive credentials

I have a couple of Windows 10 PCs that are not on the domain and being used as standalone. I have mapped the shared drives, primarily for SIMS to the PC and ticked to reconnect at login. I have then put in the users credentials and ticked the box to remember credentials. However, the PCs are forgetting the credentials at every logoff meaning they have to be re-entered every time. Is there a way I can "force" it to remember?

Although not very secure, a way round is to make an account with permissions for those drives or use the staff member's credentials and get them to map via a batch file or powershell script very time you log on to the PC.

 

Used to do it at a few primary schools, just make sure you let them know it's not overly secure but will do the job!

If the account details aren't "private", a dirty method is, just create a batch script that will delete all the shares and reconnect then dump it in the startup folder.

My domain controller is still running Windows Server 2008. I haven't updated it for Windows 10 clients (If there is indeed anything that I need to do?). I tried to add the laptop to the domain and once I did, it simply wouldn't allow users to logon. Not exactly not allowing, just stuck at "Welcome" for about 10 minutes before I gave up. Hence why I've not added it to the domain.

"My" machine at one school is W10 domain joined to a Server 2008R2 domain and while it doesn't seem to pick up some policies, mapped drives (via GPP) don't seem to be a problem. How old are the machines, and were you trying to connect wired or wireless?

It's a brand new Dell Inspiron 13 5000, 7th Gen Core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD. So it's no where near struggling for performance. It doesn't have an ethernet port, so I'm connecting to a Meraki access point outside my office with a very strong signal. So it's definitely something on the server end with regards to logon.

Even with the ridiculous time it can take to set up an account on a W10 machine that machine shouldn't take long! If no-one has come up with anything by Tuesday I'll try to have a nose around the server and see if I did anything, but I'm pretty sure I didn't.
