dsquared2 Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Last time I looked into it, it was £1,500 per year for 30 staff then £30 per member of staff over 30. Just not cost affective for most secondary schools.

We have received rough pricing and it seems cheaper than what we pay currently for our SIMS licence via our LEA. Is it working well for anyone? Anyone got experience of it? For SIMS and FMS?

Their hosted was the prices you indicated which worked out about £3600pa which is cheaper than what we pay for our annual on site sims licence and it would mean staff could access it anywhere and it comes with the teacher app for ios and android devices so was a tempting offer. We also wouldn't need to renew the physical server it sits on. Just wouldn't feel fight about making the jump without hearing from people actually using it. They assured us they use azure servers which expand automatically for extra demand and on busy days like results and census they increase the resources in advance. 1

I would be interested in hearing options too. For us the access anywhere is the main selling point.

Moving back onsite because the learning gateway was not truely cloud based just an RDP session to an azure server, it was constantly failing and we have a very robust and quick internet connection, not really a project I was involved with directly but it's now back onsite and working as it should.

It's not bad 100mb on a 1gb bearer and we rarely go over 45% usage. You may want to try and visit a few schools with it and see what their backups are. I used to work at a primary school who had it hosted but on days where the internet dropped or increase of use the hosted sims used to lag. Also if your internet drops out completely you wont be able to use it.
