We have NetSupport DNA to monitor for keywords for our safeguarding team. This is working well on our domain based devices but we have nothing for our growing fleet of Chromebooks. As far as I know NetSupport DNA doesnt have an extension that works with Chrome OS.

What do others with Chromebooks use?

We use nothing at all, but I do know Securus will have a Chrome OS client in late January.

We just dumped Securus for DNA.

@Al_NetSupport - Any plans for a Chromebook DNA client? If Securus can do it then so can NetSupport :)

Hiya, thanks for the question. Yes most definitely. We already offer a Chrome Teacher and Student app for the classroom management part of NetSupport School, but as part of our development path, dedicated ChromeOS support for NetSupport DNA ( incl Safeguarding) is firmly on the roadmap and will hopefully be available during 2017. We have a heap of new features already lined up for Bett so expect some announcement prior to that. As you will know youself :D (thankyou) we have had a huge amount of new customers over the last few months, courtesy partly from the edugeek offer.

The chrome support we alredy offer for our classroom management, is most popular in the US, but you'll see it is very well used ( > 168k downloads) https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/netsupport-school-student/gcjpefhffmcgplgklffgbebganmhffje

I was talking to a developer of Netsupport a little while ago and I think this is in the roadmap somewhere.

It certainly is :D

Is there any progress on this> This is something we need to implement quite urgently.

In terms of Chromebook monitoring, we have the screen monitoring available now and for our next NetSupport DNA update due in 8 weeks we have full monitoring of keywords and phrases with supported web controls. We will also be offering for iOS and Mac too.

Might be able to let you have a beta sooner but we tend to prefer to test more in-house rather than expect customers to pick up all the niggles. ( ok, most of the time

! sometimes we miss bits).

Happy to contact you offline if you want to see sooner?

Al.

Hi fiza,

Just to throw our lot in with the rest; LanSchool supports Chrome at both the ChromeOS client level and the Chrome browser (all platforms) too;

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lanschool-web-helper/honjcnefekfnompampcpmcdadibmjhlk?hl=en

(sadly downvoted to oblivion by jaded students!)

A list of features and current limitations are available on our Knowledge Base:

https://helpdesk.stone-ware.com/portal/kb/articles/lanschool-ios-android-and-chromebook-feature-set-and-limitations

Keyword/keystroke monitoring cannot currently be done at the device-level due to the lack of a local ring buffer on the Chromebook client; however we can pick up activity from the browser (controlled via the extension) which allows for website monitoring, tracking and blocking. 99% of Chromebook activity is done via the Chrome browser (including most apps) so we have a large amount of control available there.

PM me if you would like to see some specific use cases, thanks!

What is the easiest way to install this on say 30 Chromebooks, they are also used by multiple users (pupils).

Thanks

We use Hapara Teacher Dashboard - that has a component called Highlights which allows teacher to monitor and control their classes Chromebooks. Works really well in our 1:1 environment.

G-Suite Super Admin would be your best bet - both the app and the browser extension;

Manual Install

Hope that helps - thanks!
