RM Computers.

When we changed our PC's 2 years ago, i was gobsmacked at how much RM charge for there PC's and how underspec'ed they are.

 

I'm bored, so i thought i would go to RM's site to see what i can laugh at, and what do i find?

 

There "standard" PC's are STILL coming with only 256 megs of RAM!!!

 

Are these people CRAZY? Windows XP likes 512, and they sell them as Connect 3 pc's, i do not have RM Connect, but i'm sure with all that extra CC3 junk running these PC's must be pritty slow running XP?

 

The cost of them is awful too!

 

I "customised" the spec as much as possable to get close to what i bought last april. £380 a PC we paid for

 

3.0Ghz P4

512MB RAM

80GB Hard Disks

Floppy Disk

17" CRT Monitor

Intel PCI Network Card

Ati Radion AGP Card (128Meg)

 

RM want £650 for the same PC, and thats with onboard graphics!

 

Plus i get a 3 year warranty.

 

Am i the only one horrified by RM's prices and spec's of there PC's?

Nope, I got similar for the same thing last summer. I paid about £360 for a nearly identical spec but without CRT, but had an optical drive, and reduced hard drive from HP.

We originally bought 60 RM PCs, but now our network has 250 PCs - all the others we bought from a company called TGM for a very good price. Best advice, don't buy RM hardware

with rm way to go forward with them is dont take list price and talk to them that is how get deals with rm...

I'm assuming from those prices that you're looking at the Dell Dimension PCs, which Dell recommends for home use or very small networks. The Dell Optiplex are the ones they recommend for large networks, so they are more closely equivalent to the RM machines, and they are also roughly the same price.

One thing I would say about RM, is that their prices are higher than most, but their reliability is very good, as is their next day on site engineers.

 

Also, the PC's are extremely well designed for schools with low noise fans and their builds are good quality.

 

But yes, they definately need to re-consider their pricing and entry level spec.

No we go to a local small computer firm, we say what case, motherboard, chip, etc we want in them, he builds them for us.

3 year onsite warranty

 

Admittedly that price doesn't include a monitor but considering the spec and hardware support I think its a bargain. Yes I could build a cheaper one but I wouldn't get the warranty or support.
