noelmm Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Hi all, I have just installed Server 2012 R2 Data centre edition onto a virtual machine so that I can start to learn how to use SCCM from the beginning all the way up to a fully working environment where I can deploy an OS and applications etc. My first question (many more to follow over the coming weeks/months I'm sure) is what roles do I need to have setup on the server before I can proceed with the sccm setup? I do have a copy of System Centre 2012 Configuration Manager (SCCM) Unleashed to work through however it doesn't really mention the roles required on the server side. Thanks in advance to everyone for the help and feedback they offer. Noel
dry Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I found this guide really useful when setting up SCCM recently. It's a marathon and not a sprint- it's taken me at least half a week to get it to a point where Windows 10 is deploying correctly. There are a lot of gotchas and it really requires a lot of concentration. I'd suggest reading the guide I linked to in it's entirety so you get a feeling for what you're going to be doing. Remember you may/will need to make some adaptations for your particular environment. 1
