NEC Projector - New Lamp but still dim

Hi All

 

Hope someone can advise. I have an NEC projector linked to a really old SMARTboard (think it's a 500 series). The teacher was having issues with the image being dim. I've changed the lamp, but it does't seem to have cured the problem, even with adjusting the brightness etc.

 

Can anyone suggest anything else?

Checked it isn't on Eco mode?

 

Also passive VGA splitters and some rubbish active splitters can cause issues like this

How old is the projector?

 

It could be on its way out, Projector images get duller overtime.

We've had this with a couple, I think its something that gets vaporised when a blub blows in a certain way and coats the lens or the DLP chip, I've tried 4 different new bulbs and in the end had to chalk up the projector to be replaced.

Projectors become dim over time. We've just been through a spate of them and replaced them with epson lcd projectors.

 

We've started doing half termly readings and servicing to see how projectors deteriate over time. Needless to say that the lcd projectors are still great 3 years on and not dropped many lumens since install (that's what our light meter shows anyway)

I reckon it's dust buildup on the LCD panel inside the projector. If you're that attached to it, you could get it professionally cleaned.

Yes - could be this - I had this problem - after I had replaced the projector I took the old one apart and found that the internal lenes were covered with carp despite the filter being in one piece

 

unfortunatly getting the things working after was beyond me - the lens were so deep in th einnards that it never worked after - and getting it professionally cleaned/fixed would cost too much - better off with a new projector

Yeah - a projector is typically design to last 5 years. You'll might get 5-7. After that they need replacing.

 

Or with current primary school budgets after 10-12 years!!
