Looking at Azure prices in the CSP (Cloud Solutions Partner (partner area to get prices for Azure/resell)) there isn't a price based on different data centres. I can buy a VM in any datacentre at the same price. The question is, will they put up the price for all UK customers (no matter the data centre).

I just had a quick look the pricing calculator https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/pricing/calculator

If I take a standard A0 VM it's priced at £9.09 hosted in West or North Europe and £10 hosted in the UK. If I log into my Azure subscription and try to spin up a VM in a UK region it currently doesn't display any prices when I get to select a machine size.

For those that use Office 365, i've just noted an upcoming update.

*Go Local - This feature allows customers to move their data to local data center

I'm not sure if this means on premise or a local Microsoft Data Centre

Hey,

To answer the question regarding the move program for UK Customers; Existing customers hosted in the EMEA datacenter region will not be provided an option to move their customer data to the new UK datacenter region. If your a Customers that have strong data residency requirements you should contact your dedicated account manager at Microsoft or Support and put forward a request with appropriate references that states you have to comply with strong data residency requirements and that you request an exception from this decision.

I also want to add that, customers whom have their core customer data stored in the existing EU data centre region are not impacted by the launch of the UK data centre region. We introduce no unique capabilities, features or compliance certifications with the new data centre region. Customers in both regions will benefit from the same quality of service, performance and security controls as before. At this time the only services that can have data stored in the UK Datacenter Exchange Online and SharePoint Online you can find more information here: http://o365datacentermap.azurewebsites.net/

Starting September 7, Office 365 will provide storage of core customer data at rest in the UK for new tenants; customers must have a billing address in the UK to be eligible.

I hope that helps,

Regards,

James.

The irony is that the data will probably be safer in EU post brexit, if the home secretaries mantra about leaving backdoors open for everything is followed through.
