itgeek Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Hi We are experiencing an issue with our sims server, we are running the latest release, on the client machines and on the server when trying to save a record or edit sims crashes and says not responding. If we restart the server it will work then randomly it will just crash again. The virtual server has 16GB of ram and 13GB dedicated to SQL server 2012. If I am correct this just gives the server 3GB? Does anybody have any suggestions or experienced any issues like the above. This has been happening over the holidays with 5 users max.
JonThompson Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Yes. But 3GB for a server is a little on the low side. 4GB as a minimum would be my suggestion. We had something similar, where we had to keep restarting the SQL service to unlock SIMS. We got a SIMS SQL reindex patch from our SIMS support team, and after I ran it on the server, it's been fine since.
McChikenhanger Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 That doesn't sound good. I run some SIMS servers with SQL on 6Gigs of memory in total and they are fine with way more users than that. I would look to see if there's anything else in the background that could be causing the crashes. Another app that relies on SQL perhaps?
LosOjos Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Do you have any third party software accessing your SIMS database? I've seen software trying to run HUGE SIMS reports every 30 minutes, totally locking the database in the process. Solution was to reduce the updates to every couple of hours instead.
Meldrew Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Stupid question, really, but plenty of disc space on all drives? Meldrew
ITJS2015 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Sounds like there isn't a balance between the sims and the sql data base memory I would defo give sims at least 6gb and the sql 10gb.... I have seen someone post something like this on the sims forum where the sql data base memory was getting high and there was an option to fluctuate the memory rather than set it. This would give a balance between sims logging in and the database being steady
Boredguy Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 We had similar issues with non-responsive SIMS, but we got the Re-index and the Stat Table updates (14265 & 20647) from support on Monday and SIMS has returned to it's normal self
