Black screen after login on random workstations

We are experiencing a wierd effect on our Windows 10 workstations. When logging in a suite of 32 computers 1 or 2 of them will stick on a black screen. To get around this we have to restart the computer. This is completely random as the next

time you login those computers login fine but you might get 2 others do the same thing. Anybody else getting this and anybody found a solution?

We found that we had to restart the PCs or try and remove local profiles of the affected users.

I'm getting the exact same issue. Just when you think you've got everything sorted, we get this randomly. Frustrating.

I have found that it only does it with the first login afterr start up.

We are having the exact same issue. We've deployed LTSB 2015 and finding a couple of machines just stays on the black screen after the user has entered their login details.

I had this on windows 7 and suspected it was the installation of printer drivers over group policy. It was difficult to tie down to anything specific as it was random and intermittent and only for the first login.

We moved to scripting printer installation and never had the problem since

We have this on some machines too running Ltsb2015. They say the 2016 version should fix this.

 

There are a few different myth fixes.. windows key + p to cycle through the outputs like projector or the mysterious extra virtual monitor. Also ive tried the explorer.exe reg hack too which doesnt work. Even trying to run explorer.exe when it shows a black screen doesnt do anything and im yet to find out what causes the problem.

Same here on a rebuilt w10 room we just did a new staff inset 3 failed, reboot cleared. should be fun when the students logon....

Just to add, if you click log out when this happens, the whole profile, and i mean local and locallow gets copied to the profile store as well as roaming. Therefore profile paths are huge.

We haven't experienced this in any of our Windows 10 PCs yet. We are running Windows 10 Enterprise 1607 current branch. Which build are you experiencing this issue with? What hardware? BIOS up-to-date? Drivers injected and current?

We're running LTSB 2015. Im looking forward to LTSB 2016 to see what the delivers on 1st october. Until then we have to keep telling staff to bear with it as its a known issue.

Just like August, September brings 3 different cumulative updates, one for each version of Windows 10 released since July 2015.

 

KB3189866 (OS Build 14393.187)

 

First and foremost it’s KB3189866. This cumulative update is aimed at computers that are running Windows 10 Anniversary Update and brings improvements for apps such as IE11 and Edge, while also patching security issues in the two browsers, Flash Player, and the Windows kernel.

 

This update also fixes issues causing devices to crash when disconnecting an e-reader and improves support for camera apps in Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise. It brings a long list of fixes, including for the Start menu, Bluetooth compatibility, display rotation, and USB devices. This CU pushes version to 14393.187.

 

KB3185614 (OS Build 10586.589)

 

Computers still running Windows 10 November Update are getting updated to version 10586.589 with cumulative update KB3185614.

 

This update improves IE11 reliability, USB and the .NET Framework, fixes issues with a mandatory profile that cannot access the Start menu, Cortana, or other pre-installed apps, and includes security fixes for IE11, Edge, Windows Lock Screen Windows Kernel, and Flash Player.

 

It also fixes a critical bug that caused devices with Internet access to have incorrect date and time when joining a network with no Internet access to SSL servers.

 

KB3185611 (OS Build 10240.17113)

 

The third update is KB3185611 and is aimed at the original Windows 10 version launched in July 2015, pushing it to 10240.17113.

 

It includes several bug fixes and improvements, and addresses issues with IE11, Windows Installer, Windows Update for Business, and other pre-installed apps.

 

It also comes with critical security updates for Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge, Windows Secure Kernel Mode, and Microsoft Graphics Component, so it’s essential for users to install it as soon as possible
