Amazon.co.uk today announced the launch of a new Unlimited Storage plan, allowing customers to easily upload and securely store infinite amounts of photos, videos, movies, music, and other files. The new plan means customers no longer need to worry about storage limits when keeping their content safe and secure, with all files available for download at their original size and resolution, ensuring memories are protected for a lifetime. “Most people have a lifetime of photos from birthdays, holidays and everyday moments stored across numerous devices—and a lot of those people don’t know how many gigabytes they need to back all those memories up, or what it’s going to cost,” said David Nenke, Director of Amazon Drive. “With our new Unlimited Storage plan, that’s no longer something customers need to worry about. They now have an affordable, secure solution to store unlimited amounts of photos, videos, movies, music, and other files in one place—with no tiered storage options or rising fees to worry about.”

 

For less than £5 per month, the new Unlimited Storage plan enables customers to back-up and store an infinite number of files, including new and existing photos, videos, movies, music, and other files in Amazon Drive. Customers can auto-save all photos and videos from their mobile devices, or back-up all the content on their personal computer, with all content easily accessible at full resolution from nearly any device.

 

The new Unlimited Storage plan is available beginning today, with a free three-month trial also available for eligible customers who want to try before they buy. Prime members, who already enjoy unlimited photo storage as a benefit of Prime membership, can easily add the Unlimited Storage plan to their Amazon Drive accounts to store their videos and files in addition to photos. Existing Amazon Drive customers can easily switch their plans by signing into their Amazon Drive accounts and selecting the free Unlimited Storage trial.

I guess it doesn't matter where the data is stored if you encrypt it prior to uploading since the Terms of Use state that you can only use Cloud Drive for personal non-commerical purposes. Edited August 25, 2016 by Arthur

Of course all the companies know that once you have uploaded a terabyte of data you aren't going to keep uploading it for special offers...

 

I got a free TB for 2 yrs from Google and I've used 30Gb...

 

Microsoft have one of the best packages on offer. I just wish Onedrive was more like Dropbox/Gdrive with full versioning etc (especially in these days of ransomware etc)

Amazon Drive removing unlimited storage plan

 

1) What is changing?

Amazon is now providing options for customers to choose the storage plan that is right for them. Amazon will no longer offer an unlimited storage plan. Instead, we'll offer storage plans of 100 GB for $11.99 and 1 TB for $59.99, up to 30 TB for an additional $59.99 per TB. Any customer that signs up for storage with Amazon automatically gets 5 GB for free, and Prime members receive free unlimited photo storage. 2) When will the change happen?

On 8 June 2017. Current customers will keep their existing unlimited storage plan through its expiration date. At the end of their existing subscription, customers with auto-renew turned on and 1TB or less of data stored will be renewed into the 1 TB plan for $59.99 per year. Customers with auto-renew off, or who have more than 1 TB of data stored, will need to visit their account's Manage Storage page to opt in to one of the new plans. Prime members will continue to get unlimited photo storage, so photo storage won’t be counted against Prime members’ storage limits.

I've been trialling Amazon Drive as one of my options for somewhere to store my remote backups as CrashPlan is ending their Home service soon, but had an email from them last night...

Customers who have turned auto-renew off, or who have more than 100 GB of files stored, will need to visit their account's Manage Storage page to opt in to one of the new plans. Prime members will continue to get unlimited photo storage, and that photo storage won’t be counted against Prime members’ storage limits.

I’ll be ending my amazon cloud drive account. Was purchased for plex but that didn’t work out. And the client software / accession ACD was awful.
