I have found the document that helps you install VNC remotely: http://www.tburke.net/info/misc/vnc_remote.htm Which works perfectly. Thing is, I tried to convert this into some sort of batch to make it easier and I can't get it working - anyone got any ideas? Cheers,

strawberry Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 bozteck. http://www.vncscan.com/ deploys various different styles of vnc on command and can send wol automatically. Ironincally you can use it to run a script on as many machines as you like remotely!
mac_shinobi Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 not sure if this helps much but there is gen control : http://www.gensortium.com/products/gencontrol.html enumerates machines on your network and you can remote control them without installing anything as it temporarily installs a service on that machine to allow you to remote control them.

Anyone? oh... and wouldn't an msi be better than a batch file?

Anyone? oh... and wouldn't an msi be better than a batch file? vncon has an option to scan between an ip range so if your domain has ip range between x.x.x.x to y.y.y.y then you could just scan between those ip ranges. I tried the scan this domain but that didnt pull out anything.

I don't want to create a package, I just wanted a script that loads VNC on to one machine as and when I need it. Cheers for the links - taking a look into those now.... vnc scan will also remove it at will for you . Its useful for providing remote support as you can preview all teh screens at once and it has a facility to see whos logged onto which machine.

Assuming it's not changed since I last used it, this actually uses VNC in the background. I had a problem with it not managing to delete the temporary folder it created when it connected to some PCs. It seemed like one of the vnc dlls was still in use, but I didn't have time to get to the root of it.

Guest kerrymoralee9280 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Thanks but no thanks DSapseid - I could have created an MSI and rolled it out in minutes if I wanted to go down that path, but that's not the solution I was looking for. The VNCon as suggested by Ric does exactly the job I was wanting. It install and uninstalls VNC at the click of a button. That's all I needed. Didn't want to have to allocate an MSI then deallocate it when I was finished and all the machine restarts in between.
gh256 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I have a program what when the user double clicks it, it installs the VNC server and then does a reverse VNC connection to my workstation so I don't have to go about trying to find what PC the user is on and then type in the name. After it is done it removes itself and its like it was never there (I didn't make it, just customised it).
