Hi Guys

I was wondering if anyone uses any software to monitor there hardware? Ideally what I was thinking was a light weight application to install on the machine that would feedback information to me? Would be great if it was free too!

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

PS: Mainly on desktop machines

I recently looked at https://meraki.cisco.com/form/systems-manager-signup (free <100 devices) but it required firewall changes that we get charged for, so that put the kibosh on that. Currently using log in/log off scripts that record log in or off, machine name, user, and date/time to csv. Only had it going this week and so far it looks like none of the machines the teachers begged for in their classes have even been turned on.

What sort of information was you looking for?

We use a product called "the dude" this monitors all of our networking equipment, WAP's, copiers and servers.

It takes a little bit of setting up but is free.

We have pgrt but that is way too expensive! I can justify it because our school also looks after some of our feeder primary schools

^^ those are some good free ones, check_mk is particularly detailed in what it can do. There are also graphite/grafana which are a slightly different type of thing but equally good in their own way
