Wireless Bridge between buildings

My school has acquired an old caretakers building on site. It's around 100-150m away from the main part of the school. I need it hooked into the school network for a small team of staff that will be working over there. Digging a trench and throwing down a cable doesn't appear to be an option, so I'm currently looking at wireless solutions as an idea to bridge the gap. There is good line of sight between the buildings.

Has anyone done this with their school? Or know any decent hardware that'll do the job?

yes ive done the same, its around the same distance as well...

i used the ubiquiti nanostation m5, brilliant piece of kit for the price, and judging by the signal indicator it could extend a lot further than ive currently got it running at!

I'm using a deliberant propeller 5 for the same thing. The Ubiquiti would do just as well.

If the OP had asked for a longer distance I'd have been all over the Ligowave.

 

We had 2 links in at my last place using the LigoPTP 5-23 running approx 3/4 mile and 2 miles and apart from one time when the wind blew one of them off target and it got really slow, they were faultless for best part of the 5 years I was there.

Thanks for the info I'll look into those. Another quick question. Our network and phone ip system are on two separate physical networks. Would any of these support sending data from two separate physical networks or is a VLAN the way to go?

+1 for the Ubiquiti recommendations.

 

We use a variety of Nanostation M series links and Nanobeam AC links. I'd personally go for a pair of Nanobeam AC units. They're only a little bit more, but offer much more bandwidth, we're getting around 650Mbps over our links after alignment.

Out of interest, have you bought from MS Dist before? They've always had very good pricing for Ubiquiti kit and I've been tempted to try them out.

Yes. We've bought most of our Ubiquiti kit from them. UniFi managed wireless and, the AirMax point-point equipment. If you're placing a big order it's worth speaking to the sales team as they can sometimes offer some discounted pricing.

 

The Ubiquiti Enterprise Wireless Admin course I went on was hosted by them also.
