    This is actually starting to "do-my-head-in" I assume that if I just want to restrict non signed in users, I don't need to mess about in GaFE and I just need to add the DNS records. I've tried CNAMES, DNAMES and A records. As I now understand it from the doc that BKGarry gave the link to, CNAMES and DNAMES won't work via Server 2012 so A records pointing to 216.239.38.120 are the way to go. I've added the following zones: http://www.youtube.com youtubei.googleapis.com m.youtube.com youtube.googleapis.com http://www.youtube-nocookie.com I've given them all an A record pointing to 216.239.38.120 NSlookup for http://www.youtube.com shows 216.239.38.120 However, when I goto youtube via a browser, nothing is filtered. GaFE shows no DNS restrictions. DNS is certainly not my forte, so any help is gratefully received.

    Thanks for the info I'll look into those. Another quick question. Our network and phone ip system are on two separate physical networks. Would any of these support sending data from two separate physical networks or is a VLAN the way to go?

    My school has acquired an old caretakers building on site. It's around 100-150m away from the main part of the school. I need it hooked into the school network for a small team of staff that will be working over there. Digging a trench and throwing down a cable doesn't appear to be an option, so I'm currently looking at wireless solutions as an idea to bridge the gap. There is good line of sight between the buildings. Has anyone done this with their school? Or know any decent hardware that'll do the job? Many thanks!

    Thanks for the info. A colleague of mine came up with another solution (if you want to keep DFR-R running). It basically pushes all down the same DFS target by priority. If that server is not there for example, it will then use the other DFS target. This allows you to keep your files replicated. In DFS management, select your name space and click on a folder. Right click on the folder target you want to be your priority server and select properties. Select Advanced. Tick Override referral ordering, and select first among all targets.

    Hi. I'm currently having problems with the likes of Excel. The problem is that files stored on the shared drive can be opened by multiple users with write permissions at the same time. When the file is open and being edited by one user, Excel 'should' inform other users who try to open it, that the file is in use but they can open a read only copy if they like. This is not happening. Things to note: When two users have the workbook open, they can only see themselves within share notebook window (Excel->Review->Shareworkbook) The file is not setup for workbook merging. If I share a file from a different location eg. another workstation c:\, I do receive a message saying that I can only open a read only copy if the file is in use. I'm a bit flummoxed to be honest. Any ideas please feel free to throw them my way!

    A school not far from me has just had one of their newest boards put in every classroom. No problems so far. Someone said (you may have read already) that they had quite a high failure rate. That's all I know.

    All staff usually take home their laptops and work via offline files (I hate offline files!) Essentially they would really only need shared drives as all the programs would be installed on their laptops. However, if using remote desktop (or something similar) they won't be bottlenecked by large files and slow internet connections.

    Just wondering on your thoughts. Staff would like to be able to access the school network from home. How would you do it? I'm thinking: Remote desktop server - I'd run some virtual machines on the server and staff could log into them or VPN - not sure if the council will let me do this or Logmein (or equivalent) - to a select number of computers All of these seem to be a bit....clunky. Advice? Many thanks!

    Trapeze MX800r with 32 MP-522 APs. It's 4 years old and starting to strain under the pressure. Looking at Ruckus as option if I can get the funding to change it all.

    It's just one of the sources. Switch to the android source and you basically have a 65" tablet. Surely worth it just for a MASSIVE game of fruit ninja! I don't know whether it's been modded or whether it could be controlled via MDM.

    You can certainly find touch screens around the 65" mark for around the £1700 mark. It's not all about the money though, other things need to be taken into consideration. Generally, for the money you could be getting your speakers, amp and touch screen interactive panel and projector all in one single unit. You don't have to worry about projector cleaning/bulb replacement, speakers being on the wrong input. The clarity of picture is better for people's eyes. The touch experience is much much better. More than one child can use the board at once. They last longer than projectors. 50,000-80,000 hours for most of the touch screens I've researched. They give a much brighter picture than classroom projectors will, so no more of the closing all the blinds rigmarole! This sort of tech is quite a long term investment for a school, as it's the kind of technology I'd still expect to see in use in 8 years or so (which is a long time in technology terms). In my opinion, this is the long term cheaper and better option.

    Alpha touch screens seemed good. Very durable. Opens SMART notebook files ok without the need for SMART notebook software. Android included is a small bonus. Response times were reasonable, anti glare was good, freeze function. Miracast will be coming in the future.

    Brilliant. One of the most helpful threads I've read. Contacted a dealer this morning who installs most of the boards mentioned here. I'll have to do my own research as to the best requirements for my school, but I feel I already have a good feel of what to be looking out for thanks to this thread. With tight budgets, schools just can't afford to make mistakes when purchasing this kind of equipment in volume.

    Very good to hear that. From what I can see the SMART 4065 is looking like the best option for my school (on paper). We are quite SMART embedded too. What are the response times like? I have a demo of an Alpha touch screen today, and hopefully getting a SMART reseller to lend us a 4065. I'm still working on reviews and comments before deciding what others to try.

    Hi, Anyone know why Meraki MDM would stop Airplay from working? The iPads with the Meraki profile can see the Airserver broadcast from the computers, but when I try to connect nothing happens. iPads without the Meraki MDM profile work fine. No Vlans etc. Any ideas?

    Full signal and tested at home too. :/ Same issue. It's almost like it's waiting for something and then times out. It pretty much takes exactly 2 mins to load every time. TT advised to update to .net 4.5.2 which I have done. This fixed the issue until I logged out and back in again. Then it started taking 2 mins to load again. Profile issue maybe?

    Hi, Has anyone experienced any problems with TT load times on Windows 8? I'm using a Dell Venue 8 (recommended by TT). The program takes 2 mins to load every time. It's not a massive program and runs fine on much lesser machines. It almost seems like it's waiting for something before it will load the program, or something is timing out. I've tried turning the antiviruse off, checked the event logs etc, but nothing. Any ideas or input would be much appreciated! Thanks!
