The gunman, named by officials as Omar Mateen, was killed after taking hostages. Another 53 people were injured in the shooting at the Pulse club. It is the worst mass shooting in recent US history. Police described it as an act of terrorism. Officials said the killings were likely to be ideologically motivated, though there was no information that the gunman was associated with a particular group...

rich_tech Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 some truly horrible and senseless acts have taken place in the US the last couple of days and it makes for upsetting reading and watching, the singer getting shot the day before made for horrific reading as well I felt. I am far more surprised that the BBC failed to cover an incident of this magnitude immediately, concentrating on birthday related non-news, sign of the times when you have to get your news from non-uk sources 1

I've found quite a few things on there before that weren't on the BBC News site yet (like last year's attacks in France). 1

More specifically: Non-BBC sources. I know what you mean. Because my Windows 10 install at home is Dutch, Edge shows me MSN NL news stories when I open a new tab. I watch some of the US News stations as well as BBC (useful when some of your friends are American), it is very telling when they get things on air before the BBC, and in more detail.

That would allow them to continue using the threat of it (which is usually all that's needed) to defend their homes and such, but you have to reload after every shot so mass public shootings simply couldn't happen. After all, even if you miss you can still use it to cause blunt trauma!

After all, even if you miss you can still use it to cause blunt trauma! or even just make it illegal to sell magazines that hold more than say 6 bullets if you need more than that to hunt your shooting is terrible

It's a case of damage control. A 30-round semi-automatic weapon can cause a lot of damage in a short period of time. Possibly more than full-auto as you are "wasting" less missed shots from a burst. If a weapon held 6 rounds and was bolt-action, then you would have opportunities to escape during the chambering of the weapon between each shot and the increased number of reloads. 1
