OCR Nationals - Tasks requiring extra security permissions

Recommended Posts

Posted

Our students undertaking OCR Nationals for ICT have a number of tasks that are not possible to perform with our current AD security. They obviously need to produce screenshots as evidence of this activity so a demonstration is no use.

The tasks are using a mouse to `Right Click` (which for obvious reasons is disabled) and create a new shortcut.

Right Click and obtain a web pages properties.

Manage Bookmarks and Favourites.

Question is how are others managing this scenario??

Some of our current thoughts are:

Standalone PC.

Do it as homework !!

Hi there,

We gave them right click, and fingers crossed, thus far it hasn't caused any problems as most things right click gives is available via the file menu.

They can then make their shortcuts, edit them etc as appropriate.

Still waiting on the come backs!!

It would iritate me so much for basic tasks such as copying and pasting if I didn't have right click enabled - and therefore I personally believe this should not be disabled! I allow it here and it doesn't cause problems!

we have a lot of students gaining the highest grade in this course without any need for the right click. the teachers need to know the assessment criteria correctly to find the ways of avaoiding its use.

I've been asked today if we can enable Search (Control+F). It's turned off by default in our Student user type (RM CC3).

It's obviously turned off for a reason, what are the implications of enabling search?

The section that's been quoted is...

"They will locate and open existing files, using the search facilities of the operating system software where necessary."

This is required to obtain a distinction.

Na mate, download virtual pc or vmware Like I did, just setup a xp virtual enviroment and allow the kids to copy files back and forth between host and virtual machine. You will need to buy additional xp licences to do this.

We enabled it as again I found no reason for why it was disabled.

Searching for people in the domain (especially when students fill in their "contact info" with inappropriate contents).

How about setting a computer lab or laptop trolley up temporary so they are "standalone computers" where they are part of a workgroup or something without any security restrictions but still send them though the proxies and such.
