Hp Procurve Core Switch Crash

Hi all,

 

Our HP procurve core switch has just crashed out with the following error:

 

I 05/26/16 13:41:34 00063 system: System went down:  05/26/16 13:39:59
I 05/26/16 13:41:34 00064 system: NMI event HW:IP=0x0088c2c0 MSR:0x00029210
           LR:0x008

 

 

Does anyone have any ideas what this error means as to me it's rather vague and cryptic.

anything interesting in the log just befor the crash?

Thankfully they have a lifetime warranty so give HP Support a ring and see what they say

Nothing in the logs at all other than the crash error.

What's the switch model and firmware version in use?

 

Google for tDevPollRx and you'll find release notes for firmware versions of a 3800, 5400 and 2900 each fixing a switch crash to do with that task. I've had one of those before, you'll often find it's a very very rare crash scenario that you've just been unfortunate to experience, and most of the time there's already a fix in a newer firmware.

That's great. I'll take a look next week. It's a 5400zl I think. Will need to check on the firmware version though.

Latest version is K.16.01.0007 - I've been updating all of our 5406zl out there, I had a few HP's over the years crash on me and normally the firmware update fixes it, useful links:

Firmware version from 2008!?

 

Yea you might just find an update fixes a "few" bugs

Successfully updated to the latest K.16.01.0007. Was a bit of a mission - took an hour to work through the update process 4 times, rebooting the switch each time and backing up the config and copying the firmware to the secondary each time. The last update was a nightmare moment as the switch took forever to reboot.
