Xirrus - Opinions?

Hello all,

 

We have been obtaining quotes and demonstrations for a new wireless system and have been impressed with the pricing and features of Xirrus.

 

Can anyone feedback on their experiences with them? I would be very grateful for any comments (good or bad!)

No hands on experience but we were impressed with their system until we got the quote through so I am glad they have gotten better. They were also of the "put a point in every class and everything will be OK" school of thought which I have issue with, possibly why we had a high quote.

We did replace our wireless setup last year, price wise they were very competitive and even reduced further during the negotiations. Since setup working perfect without any problem.

I have Xirrus running in 3 schools 2 with the XR520's for 4yrs and 1 with the XR620's for the last yr for me the were the most competitive and have all the bell and whistles of all other suppliers never had a problem with them any that have broken had been swapped out with question. Good support based in the UK apart from if you get redirected to America takes 5 minutes to spell my email address to them need to practise my Queen's English

We had Xirrus arrays installed in an old school I used to work at. I left before I could see them in proper action although from what I heard they where dreadful, would constantly drop out and arrays would just stop working for no apparent reason. As a result I've always stuck with Aruba and they have been top notch, weren't the cheapest but they very rarely have problems.

What other wifi vendors have you looked at? Have you tried Meraki?

No worries

 

We have looked at Meraki, Meru, Aruba and Ruckus in various levels of detail.

 

Meraki offer a lot in terms of features but the costs were a little too high.

I am not sure if you have looked at Wireless Access Points & Bridges, WiFi, Mesh, Point to Point & Multipoint, 3G & LTE Cellular Gateways - 4Gon - 4Gon Solutions website, they do various range of wifi kits. For the system like Ruckus Wireless, you can installed and configured the system by yourself and it's very easy to do.

Have you looked into Aerohive a company called LAN3 will do a complete test and price up for you, also it is cloud based which saves on purchasing hardware controllers and to be honest once setup they just work, we've had ours for 3 years now and still going strong not had to replace a single AP.

Are you going with cloud or on-premise?

 

We're in the midst of testing their products and have found XMS-Cloud very intuitive and user friendly.

Not quite decided yet, but they are definite favorites
