Sam_Brown Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Seems like a god send in terms of not having all the awful built in apps from being installed that most people seem to spend time trying to script a removal of. Also means that many of the features pushed out in the other versions of Windows 10 aren't applied and should stop things breaking as oftern. I appreciate the lack of the App Store, Cortana and Edge browser might be a negative for some people but for me I don't have an issue with losing them. Opinions?

You never know what features/updates Microsoft will release for it, since it's made for things like ATMs, factory machines, PoS etc. Use the supported OS IMO, stick with Education or Enterprise if that's what you're licensed for

You never know what features/updates Microsoft will release for it, since it's made for things like ATMs, factory machines, PoS etc. Use the supported OS IMO, stick with Education or Enterprise if that's what you're licensed for I've not seen this anywhere but I've not really investigated that much so far either. Although the part about features \ updates goes against what I've read elsewhere. I was under the impression the LTSB version stopped the new features. Not added to them! Where are you getting your info from?
Sheridan Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 For me, the removal of all the rubbish that clogs up the other versions has pushed me towards LTSB. Even the education version comes with Xbox garbage etc, why!?

Its made for general purpose workstations in large networks. The bank I worked for had 50,000 workstations, can you imaging having to upgrade Windows 10 every 9 months on these? I thank you are getting mixed up with Windows Embedded OS and LTSB. Embedded OS is for ATMs etc.
timbo343 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Seeing as MS want to listen to their customers, why do we as IT Support create a petition to have MS create a version such as enterprise that has no s**tty apps and comes with calculator, sound recorder, store and the other which i forget. This version will also be able to receive updates and upgrades unlike LTSB.

Oaktech Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I started running 10 pro on my works laptop (it came with the job and I left it in the cupboard until I went on paternity leave last year, it's non domain and just facilitates support from home) as a free upgrade, but I got fed up to the back teeth of it constantly adding back in features I'd uninstalled every time it did an update. I've got a copy of work licensed O365 installed, but pretty much every time there's an update 'office click to run' comes back, It got to the point that the powershell script to lose the appx apps was on my desktop ready to run. I've since rebuilt the machine with LTSB and it's like a breath of fresh air to have critical updates arrive and not have to play 'feature roulette' after a reboot! I'm going to build my 10 image on it with a view to deploying it next summer once I've sacked off all my 2008 servers and rasised the domain level.

soapyfish Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 We are using windows in the office I am using the LTSB version and my colleagues are using Pro. all I can say so far is that the LTSB version has been rock solid and stable where as the other 2 machines seem to crash daily and are constantly throwing up issues especially the Cortana indexing service seems to be responsible for crashing explorer so badly that the machine just restarts. Long term I am a little concerned that the edge browser is not available as far as I know on LTSB and who knows how long IE will last at this point. Although we could move to chrome....
MartinRouterKing Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I have just imaged all our computers and laptops with Windows 10 enterprise LTSB up to now no issues at all. So much easier to build an image and not have to remove all the rubbish.

They added it to my account and said something along the lines of its only there if you request it but it was free and not a problem.

Was told it wasn't licensed to EES customers and we couldn't have it. So, it appears that it depends on who you speak to again!!

So, it appears that it depends on who you speak to again!! We didn't have our KMS keys showing so I had to get in touch with them but they sorted it out within the day. Again apparently these aren't shown by default and you have to ask for them. I didn't call them. I e-mailed "[email protected]" and they responded pretty soon after.

The guy I spoke to was adamant we weren't entitled. He then messed up issuing our Education KMS key too though, so maybe not the best employee of the bunch.
