wanted : any size ssd drives to keep old kit going.

Does anyone have any old ssds that they need recycling.

After getting my budget halfed this year I am looking to eek out another year on old equipment.

 

We are still using dell gx280 p4s thats how bad it is, I would love to replace them for new but this wont happen until next year.

If anyone can help I will give them a good home.

Surprised the GX280's are still working, we were pulling them out 10 years ago when I was in the NHS, we had no end of issues with them and the GX270's with swollen capacitors.

Can't you even get budget for some 120gb SSD's?? They were on offer at ebuyer yesterday for £23 a pop!

 

Least then, as new ones, worth putting into new machines when you can get something!

Thats the plan but i thought that maybe someone may have some old 60gb ssds around the office from upgrades.

 

If you dont ask I will ring round for some quotes on monday.

I've personally found most suppliers aren't great on SSD prices, pretty much always kept an eye on ebuyer, when they have a promo on, unbeatable and they generally have one every couple of weeks, you just have to move that day. But worth waiting for as can save £4-5 a unit which obviously adds up if you're buying 30+

We've found Insight pretty good for SSD pricing if you buy a quantity.

One thought. From memory the Dell GX280 only has a SATA150

i/f so the benefit won't be as great with SATA2 or 3. I would try 1 SSD first to see what kind of performance boost you get.

Having said that it has made our old core2 PCS still usable on CC4.

For laptops one extra benefit is longer battery life which I hadn't realised.

i bought 50 Hyperx savage 240GB drives from bt business these are fairly cheap BT Business Direct - Kingston 60GB SSDNow V300 SATA3 2.5" 7MM solid state drive (SV300S37A/60G) for £25 website price speak to an account manager and knock the price down
