server trust issues

Morning guys

 

I’m having problems with 2 servers not ‘seeing each other’ on the network.I’m pretty sure it is a permission problem. So here is what I have tried.

When I try to add permission to a folder on server1 for server2 I can change the location to server 2 but when I click on check names for the administrator account it kinder crush and then just says the object cannot be found. These servers probably haven’t been setup properly but not sure where to start fixing it. What I have just described happens on both servers.

Server 1: curriculum server, windows server 2008 R2

Server 2: admin server, windows server 2012 R2

Any help would be much appreciated.

First thing to check is DNS - check the static IP configurations on both servers (I presume both are DNS servers)?

Also check the subnet of both servers.

I checked it and they seem to be ok although on server 2 where msdcs.servername the ip address was not resolved so I typed in server2's ip address.

 

 

Yes they both dns servers.

one point we had to change the use the following DNS server addresses in IP4 to an address that LGFL provided us, they are our network suppliers.

 

I just noticed that this address is only changed on server 1. On server 2 is 127.0.0.1 which point back to itself I believe.

 

could this be the problem?

Servers should point to themselves first - so 127.0.0.1 is OK, but then it should point/resolve to the secondary DNS server on site.

 

DNS forwarders then communicate with your ISP LGfL to resolve sites outside of school.

If both servers are DNS and Domain Controllers The LAN adapters DNS need to point to them selves and each other respectively I'd of thought as @Michael has pointed out.

 

The forwarders on each DNS server need to be set to your LEA if I'm not mistaken.
