Here are the GPO settings, as the file is protected you need to allow the permissions for this to be overwritten. Once you have applied this, it will take two restarts to test. The first restart will set the permissions on the file and then the second restart should replace the file in question with the one you have edited. If it doesn't work, on a machine it has bee applied to, make sure the permissions for the file look like the GPO above. 1

Using 1909 and the permission seem to be right and the file is located in %SystemRoot%\System32\en-GB\credprovhost.dll.mui Using ResEdit I can see that the string has been changed to the school name, yet the login page still says 'Other user'...

TSEARS Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I’d go with the one with host on the end, that’s the one I’ve done at about 4 schools which always worked for me. Haven’t tested in 1909 yet though!

KevinB Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I find that editing credprovhost.dll.mui worked on builds up to 1803 but since then though it initially appears to have worked, it reverts back to "Other User" after some period of time, and even re-pushing the files out via GPO doesn't correct it, so I've given up 1

Wouldn't swap it when booted even after taking ownership of the and assigning relevant permissions. 1

After testing it appears that 1909 doesn’t let you alter the text after booting into full OS.
Starcomper Posted February 9, 2020 Posted February 9, 2020 I tried editing credprovhost.dll.mui successfully following the steps earlier in the thread but somehow it doesn't work. I'm on Windows 10 Home Edition in Swedish though so I edited credprovhost.dll.mui in the sv-SE folder in System32. That is, I edited the Swedish translation 'Annan användare' of 'Other user' in that file located under ID 100. Somehow 'Annan användare' is still shown at the login screen. Does anyone know how to fix this?
