Question to Phil N.

Do Capita intend to support the new Microsoft Classroom initiative both in terms of account and group provisioning and the writing back of data to SIMS?

Thank you in anticipation

Further to Phil's post Capita is working with Microsoft on bringing these new innovations to schools in potential school pilots over this summer and into the next academic year. As soon as we have something to report with Apple and Google I will post again.

Whilst you wait, you might want to look at SalamanderSoft. As they've been doing this (and more) for a long, long time.

We use Richard's Salamander solution for account provisioning but I don't think this stretches to write back to SIMS (probably into assessment manager). I may be wrong.

We have salamander write back a users email address once they've been created in ad.

Yeh axiously awaiting this one as well.

I think Microsoft Classroom is only in beta in the USA for now though.

Another 3rd party who have done this are Ruler | Connect Office 365 and Capita SIMS

Also I found this nice interactive demo of Microsoft Classroom here:

Can't wait to test this out. Google had had a monopoly on this for too long.

It's available now. ;)

The process of getting data from SIMS to Classroom should be fairly simple, but i wouldn't hold your breath for help from Capita. If they were all about adding value, we'd have had staff timetables in outlook years ago!

- Open up a private browser

- login to portal.office.com

- Check you have both global admin rights, and office for education students in the licensing

- Add license to your admin user for microsoft license.

- Check health >> Service Health. You should now see a new item "Education Services". This means it worked.

- Assign that license to your admin user. Users >> choose your login or admin login >> licenses >> edit >> "Microsoft classroom preview"

More detailed presentation here

You can then browse to https://sds.microsoft.com and sync your MIS system with it. Of course we need to wait for Capita or whatever product you use to support it first ;)
