Hello all,

I'm new to this whole forum so please be nice !

Just a general topic of do people bother buying cases and screen protectors for their beloved phone / tablet *couch expensive device *

I mean I've had my phone (iPhone 5S Gold) for nearly 2 years and it's always had a screen protector and case on, but no matter how hard I try to protect it I always seam to get marks on where the paint has worn away and general ware and tear

What do people do with old phones that they no longer want ? I've got a couple that I could do with getting rid of !

Thanks

Otterbox cases are great for iDevices and probably a select few android devices. I've always used full phone covers so when it comes to upgrade time, it's easy to sell them on.

If you're patient though, you can buy replacement cases for iPhones easily enough for resale time or if you just want to keep it ticking over a while longer. iPhones are particularly prone to crap ingress around the buttons so now matter how clean you think they are from the outside, opening them up and giving them a blowout will extend their lifetime.

The oldest (not smart) phones I sold on eBay recently... even the ones that didn't work.

The old iphone 4 and 5 population are kept as spares to take to festivals or used when travelling by my k(aged 20 and 22)

Sooner or later they'll stop losing and abusing phones I suppose!

Yes we all have cases. The gel ones seem to help phones bounce and judging by the state of my screen protector I recently changed those do a fair job too.

I have a gel case on my 6+ here and take super care of it, I bought a griffin case for my wife (though be weary I got hit with a customs charge on that from america), otter box are decent too, had my mother buy one after she bust her phone a couple of times.

Screen protector + case on any phone or tablet I own. prefer the "hard gel" type, but they're not always available. Did try one of those "2 stage" rugged cases on my current phone, but it was too thick to be usable with my magnetic car mount :(.

Anyone tried this stuff: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crystalusion-Protection-Cameras-Laptops-Monitors/dp/B007CKP1XC ? Got some on offer, but chickened out of using it on my new phone. Might try it on its predecessor.

The most I ever put on my phones these days is a Dbrand skin. That is not even for protection, more cause I like my phones to be colourful!

My phones generally stay in good condition, occasional my parrot will get a bit carried away and put a scratch on the screen. And I dropped my nexus 4 twice cause it was so slippy. Dropped my Nexus 5 off a table at the weekend, screen had a crack down it now, but it is hardly noticeable. I'll eventually get it sent away for repair.

Hate both and never used a case or screen protector for years as I'd never dropped a phone until I bought my brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 and 4 days after having it I dropped leaving a scuff. Since then I've had a case on it.

My uncle who's a tree surgeon bought a new iPhone 5S when it came out and put a Griffin Survivor case on it, to this day it's in perfect condition and this phone has been accidentally chucked out of a car window doing 60mph and ran over once by a digger... the case was pretty mangled but the phone didn't show one scratch. He just bought another after the case was broken.
