Computers turning themselves on and off at night? Technical issue or Ghost?

Hi,

 

I am not sure where to put this.

 

We have a strange issue. Every now and then, very inconsistently the below happens on the computers in this IT room shown in the video. The computers turn themselves on and off at 3am in the morning?? At the time of this happening no network cables were connected as they were attached the laptops for image overnight. The computers are Dell Optiplex 7010 USFF.

The same room the CleverTouch screen also turns itself on and off? It does have a built in PC but not a Dell.

Have you checked the computers power settings in BIOS?

I believe 3am is the time Windows PCs automatically check for updates.

I've been advised by my much wiser colleague that you should maybe check your power supply to the room - if it's near the limit and fluctuating it may cause the random reboots...

 

(That or a scheduled task but there shouldn't be any on the Clevertouch)

Are the PCs fully powered off and definitely not sleeping?

 

Try this on an effected PC, see if it reveals anything; Lastwake Command - Windows 7 Help Forums.

 

From memory, Windows update is set to retrieve updates at 3am by default.

windows 10 automatically schedules overnight bootups/updates if configured?

As mentioned, double check the BIOS there's a setting in the dell bios where it will turn on at a specified time - maybe this was set previously and forgot about?

You need a Book on CPU instruction sets, A Bellwire terminator and a floppy disk of 1989 RPG "The Magic Candle"

 

Then you spray the machine with Holy Air Duster and say "The Power of Gates compels you! The Power of Gates Compels you!"

A laptop my daughter had from Dell a few years back has this bit of software on it that woke the laptop at intervals to check social media messages then shut it back down. Total pain. I uninstalled it.

Sounds like the built in Win 8 and 10 daily maintenance window being stupid, although I'd go with Domino's suggestion
