CCTV Cabling

Hello All,

 

Please bare with me if this has been mentioned in the past...

 

Basically, in the past, sometime over the last few years, i ordered a CCTV BNC/AC power cable to connect a CCTV camera up to my house.

 

I've tried to find the cable again, but all the cables that I seem to order have a block joining the two cables together into one cable, from where the BNC and Power cables are separated.

 

Is there anyway to cut the cable and re-join it again or possibly take the block off so it would be possible to cut and feed it through a hole in the wall then back out again, then join it together??

 

Sorry if i'm waffling, someone come onto our property the other night at 03:30 and cut my CCTV cables and pinched some CCTV cameras.

 

If someone knows where i can get the cable from, possible eBay or Amazon without the blocks on, but 30-40 meters long, that would be great.

Yes this is possible. Have you a picture of the cables? Usually the power will be 12/24vDC carried along a 2core cable. You can just hook this up with connector block if you really need to. The Co-ax is more tricky as you should really run it into a BNC or RCA, and then connect the two ends with a coupler or male/female.

 

I would suggest that the holes for the cable should be big enough to poke the cables through without needing to chop the ends off. Pictures would really help here.

When I've had one of these cables spare a few weeks ago, i cut into the connector block to see what it was like inside. It has two cables, and two bits of copper cable going into the block, which are then joined to two cables which join to the otherside of the cable if you get what I mean?

What CCTV system are you using?

You would be better to use decent cabling that stuff is thin and nasty, you want CCTV Shotgun cable such as this https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Cable_Index/Cable_CCTV/index.html and you can get joining kits if required for the coax further down that same page (you can use TV antenna connectors and bullets for that and chocyblock for the DC power if your really scrimping)

The CCTV system I'm using has been bought individually, such as the camera's, DVR and cabling. Ideally i don't want to spend another fortune on cabling, I've pre-drilled a hold for two cat 6 cables to fit through, if i can get away with cutting the ends off the cable and pushing them through the hole in the brick wall, and then re-joining them again that would be a lot easier.

You could just use CAt 5 or CAT6, then order some video CCTV baluns from the net which have power and BNC.

 

Push cable through the wall and terminate the Ethernet attach baluns at either end. Job Done.

 

Thats how mine works anyway.

This is typically called Shotgun cable.

Thanks for you replies, I've went and bought some Shotgun cable, this seems to work well, there's only a few lines where there's a bit of interference, it works well though!
