migrate/upgrade 2003 server to server2003 r2

Has anyone had any experience of upgrading there current windows 2003 sp1servers to server 2003 r2 i generally would never do an inplace upgrade but i want to take advantage of some of the features without having to entirely rebuild all my servers.

I understand that i only need disk 2 but any other info on the preperation etc would be useful.

I don't see how, the first one comes up in the 'similar threads' thing. The other one would too, but it's too old (it comes up as a similar thread in the other thread though).

We did exactly this and didn't have a single problem on any of our servers. Check your schema after updating though.

 

Go for it but make sure you have good backups just in case.

R2 is designed to be an upgrade to 2003, so there's no need to rebuild your server from scratch.

 

As a general rule I always update my 2003 servers to SP2 first, then starting with domain controllers, update the schema, then apply R2. R2 doesn't need a reboot, but it is recommended you do.
