Changing Gas Suppliers

Hi all

 

I know nothing about changing energy suppliers. Reaching the end of our current 1 year fixed rate deal. (Moved into a new build where e.on had all the houses etc)

 

I have browsed USwitch and can save upto 150 a year by going with Scottish Power. Is it a simple process to switch? Does the other company generally speaking try to make it difficult to switch? Can it be done in advance with a planned switch date?

 

Any advice on this appreciated.

Simple enough to do all you need to do is sign up to the new supplier and they will handle the rest for you. Expect the process to take a minimum of 4 weeks, probably around 6 weeks. They are never in any hurry to do these things!

 

Providing there's no outstanding debts it should be quick (for these guys) and painless

we're currently in credit....will we see that money again should we cancel/not renew?

Once the final readings have been given to them they will settle the account and then either credit you account for what they owe or debit you for whatever you may owe. Just make sure you take the final readings!

I haven't done it for a few years but I used to do it every year - scottish power always seem to be one of the two cheapest for me these days so to only save an extra £11 i've not bothered with the move.

I was strangely elated this year when they cut my bill in January and then moved me onto a new tariff in February that cut it again. I also like their app and website

Money Saving Expert runs a cheap energy club. You can sign up to that and get a notification if there is a better deal available for you. It's also a good site to use to compare which deals are best for you. If you have your previous bills to hand you can establish the best deals and even make the application from the site. Be aware that they will get a referral fee for anyone who signs up through their site, but that doesn't affect the price you pay. It really is a simple process as previously mentioned. You'll be wondering why you haven't been through it before once you've done it once.

I change every year, and go through quidco. You get the same deals. I recently moved to scottish power, despite living in Wiltshire, and received £21 back.

Easy peasy and go through money saving expert or quidco as mentioned above and get your cashback to boot. I think they both require sign up, but worth it.
