I'm having problem installing extract .msi version of java 8_v_73.when i install java it gives this message "There is a problem with this windows installer package.A program required for this install to complete could not be run". i would like to know if there's a problem with extract .msi version or antivirus blocking the installation.please let me know how to get around this if some one come across this problem.

Has this machine ever had Java installed? I've sometimes seen a similar message when there's an incompletely removed old version messing things up. That said you don't need to install it - just let it run as far as the screen when it asks you if you want to install, then cancel. (Unless you get the error before then).

I have just updated a laptop to this version of Java. After the install it proceeded to uninstall the old version. All successfully completed.

Have you checked the install file isn't damaged? Re-download, or try another secure source.

 

How did you extract the .msi?? Start the installer, copied the .msi file, closed the installer?

 

If so, try... Start the installer and close the installer. Then copy the .msi file.
