We have one server that is virtualised been a primary school it is the server that does everything DHCP /DNS / DC and the file server. Everything is running fine. But we have 1 spare licence of Server 2012 that we could deploy as a VM. What would you use this spare one for? I'm looking at rolling out office 2016, so my thought was to make a software distro server and Windows update server and just power it up when I need to put out updates or new software. Does this sound like a plan or ?
3s-gtech Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I'd just split things down a bit, perhaps use it for WSUS and as a file server, moving that role across. Basically, I'd use it to spread the load.
dry Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Yep, split it down. Do you really want to have to reboot your DNS/DHCP server just because the print server role throws a wobbly (for example) and it's installed on the same instance of Server 2012?
