olivermarshall22 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Hi all We want to run a "golden barcode" lottery where the kids can check out books then scan (or enter) their barcode and be told whether they have a winning book. They'll then get a prize of some type. Before I delve in to doing this does anyone know of a tool, site, or service that could do this for us? We need to be able enter the winning barcodes and provide facility for the kids to easily enter or scan their books, perhaps to an app or website. If they scan the winning code we need a way to tell them with a big "YAY!" page or something. I was thinking of just having a page in a wordpress site with the barcode in it and "YAY!" written all over it. If they search the site using the winning barcode number then the page will be found. If not, then the page won't be. We can rule out any "word" searches, such as searching for "yay". Any better ways of doing this? Any experience of something similar? Doesn't *have* to be barcodes, but we can't put winning tickets in the books as kids have been seen to rummage through all the titles leaving a big old mess. Olly
sburford Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 What about a QR code with the url of your winning site embedded for one and a sorry page for the rest? Then they can use their phone etc? Just an idea?

Olly How are you thinking students will scan their book? I wonder if a barcode reader through a window would work, ie press the barcode up to the window and a monitor behind? Meldrew
olivermarshall22 Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 Thanks everyone. I like the idea of having the URL within the QR code itself. Not entirely sure whether we have QR codes on the books or just plain old barcodes though. I'd have to find a way to allow the page to only be viewed once though. Olly
