BassTech Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Anyone picking DOOM up today? I've seen a few early reviews and first impressions from forums, and people are saying the single player is brilliant 9/10. Very tempted to get it on the way home later
synaesthesia Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Yup, it preloaded a couple of nights back and it's ready to play today Can't wait to get home.
BassTech Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Yup, it preloaded a couple of nights back and it's ready to play today Can't wait to get home. Been keeping a close eye on the early reviews and I'm sold on the single player! Tonight could be an all-nighter for me
flyinghaggis Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 The single player game seems to be getting good feedback from most places and looks good in a couple of videos I've seen. Frustrating they've gone down the 'season pass' route for the multiplayer but I dont see me spending much time playing that after my experience with the beta. I'll probably wishlist it on steam and pick it up when it's a bit cheaper later in the year as I have too many other games I need to catch up on at the moment!
6Foot2 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Link: [YouTube link: Note: Spoilers!] Watch as we glory kill our way through the opening two levels of id's new shooter.
flyinghaggis Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I caved in and bought it after watching a couple of the single player videos which made me all misty eyed and nostalgic for some doom action. I have no willpower The game install size at 43Gb is pretty fierce on PC for anyone downloading it on Steam so bear that in mind!
ZeroHour Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Single player is pretty awesome so far. I love the classic doom style secrets as well. I wish the season pass had been more single player stuff tbh.
NokiX Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Single player is pretty awesome so far. I love the classic doom style secrets as well. I wish the season pass had been more single player stuff tbh. I agree, I've been really enjoying the game as it's gives me a break from some of the more serious games like BattleField 4.
synaesthesia Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Absolutely loving it. It's very much Doom of old with some new toys. The glory kills don't actually seem to slow anything down as I thought they would, everything flows, and it is as advertised: relentless. On top of that it seems *really* well optimised; it runs smooth as anything on my PC with aging GPU!
DalekSec Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Brought it Saturday, started playing it sunday morning, finished it sunday evening. Love it! 8.5/10 for story line
jaminben Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 +1 from me... absolutely fantastic game (single player), loving it.
datar_ Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 I'm very surprised how well it's delivered on the Xbox one, I am a PC gamer but decided against getting it on PC for whatever reason. Playing it at 1080p@60fps and the relentlessness of the single player campaign so far. It's just unexpected how well it's all worked [emoji23]
BassTech Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Nearly finished the campaign, level 30 on multiplayer and had a fair go on SnapMap. The single player is suburb, I don't think they could've done much more to stay true to the original games, I had to force myself to stop playing because I didn't want to complete it all in 1 day, although I am very close to the end now. It's basically just you, your arsenal of ridiculous weapons and shooting demons point-blank in the face, with a heavy-metal backing track. The story is OK, but feels secondary to being a general bad-ass, which is how it should be Multiplayer is surprisingly fun, much better than the BETA and it has some interesting game modes (Freeze Tag). However, I fear it will get boring fast and seems to have a lack of depth that other modern online shooters have. It feels like it's trying to be DOOM & Quake but doesn't really pull either of them off. SnapMap is very cool, a lot of options there and I can see some players making amazing maps with the tools available - I think SnapMap is the key to keeping this game alive, as there are endless possibilities. There are much more options than I thought there would be, reminds me of the old Timesplitters map creator - which is a good thing. Overall worthy of a purchase, I'd give it an 8/10. Whether it's worth keeping and not trading in after completing single player though, I'm not so sure!
north-ict Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 When the price comes down a bit I will get this I cannot wait to play it
