Yes. It's a known issue. For Windows 10 v1709 you need to keep the Microsoft.Xbox.TCUI and Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider apps to avoid breaking the Windows Store and Photos apps. Either whitelist those two apps or all of the Xbox apps depending upon your requirements. Edited January 19, 2018 by Arthur 4

For pupils we pull out everything but ran into an issue with jpegs not opening so I've used SCCM to get the old photo viewer back. Seems to be working so far. I haven't tested 1709, is log ins any quicker over 1703?

If so, copy the entire 'w10fall' folder to a local drive and then run the script again.

jmak Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 I'm just revisiting this - thought I was going mad when the image mounted 6 times. I must have left it running while I did something else last time. Last time I used it, 1709 was a fairly new thing. Now that there are a significant number of updates, I'm looking for the best way to deploy updates. Is there a straightforward way to add them into the wim or is it better to add a task in MDT? I have a wsus server if that helps.

There's only one file in the DeploymentShare, but in the workbench there are several OSs listed. I called mine: Win10_Edu_x64_1709_01_install.wim and listed I have: Windows 10 Education in Win10_Edu_x64_1709_01_install.wim Windows 10 Education N in Win10_Edu_x64_1709_01_install.wim Windows 10 Enterprise in Win10_Edu_x64_1709_01_install.wim Windows 10 Enterprise N in Win10_Edu_x64_1709_01_install.wim Windows 10 Pro in Win10_Edu_x64_1709_01_install.wim Windows 10 Pro N in Win10_Edu_x64_1709_01_install.wim Why Microsoft? Why? My workbench wasn't exactly empty and now it's full of stuff I don't want.
SWC Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Hi guys Working on creating a new image to be deployed in our college over the summer. I have created an image on a VM and ran a powershell script to remove these unwanted apps. Works fine on the image and i capture it fro deployment with SCCM. When the images deploys to a physical machine and i log in as a down user the apps have reappeared. Windows 10 Educatioon version 1709. I used 1607 previously and didn't have any issues like this Any ideas how i can kill these off for all users

I need to work out if the latest update 1803 as an upgrade will keep the removed apps. Or as I use a configmgr task sequence for upgrades I could use the script again after the upgrade has completed to remove the apps again actually I would think we would need to do this as I guess 1803 will introduce some new apps that no one ever uses.

One of the most annoying 'features' of Windows 10 are the tiles that are automatically added to your Start Menu for apps such as Candy Crush Soda Saga, Twitter, Minecraft, Flipboard etc. Since the apps aren't installed until a user clicks on the tile you can't run the usual PowerShell commands to uninstall them since they aren't present in Microsoft's Windows 10 images. Thankfully there is a surprisingly simple solution to prevent these tiles from appearing in the first place. In the group policy templates for build 10586 (a.k.a. 1511) there is a new policy called "Turn off Microsoft consumer experiences". After the policy has been enabled the aforementioned tiles will no longer appear (unless of course you have intentionally installed Candy Crush or any of the other apps).
