Hopefully Google will come up with something similar to compete so we have a bit of choice :) Excited to have a bit of a play around with this on some of our iPads when it comes out!

The bit that looks annoying is the fact it's still totally different to a "normal" login. :s

Separate storage/documents, separate login name, separate password.

Unless you're going 1to1 still don't see this making a huge difference in secondary schools :(

edit - Guess it depends how well that classroom control part works in relation to picking who's using what ipads etc especially if you have a large bank rather than a set per class etc

- To expand on that, it's great being able to force all students to use a certain app etc, but how do you pick what ipads this works on? As if it's a shared bank etc wouldn't it force them all to go to it even if someone from another class borrowed one?

It won't appear in this country for a while like most Apple stuff I guess, it's about time they did something like this, it's only took them years!

*edit* just read that it's really not recommended to use sharing on 16Gb iPads, that's us stuffed then!

Apple stuff is usually available in the UK around the same time as the US. It doesn't look like they'll limit to to >16GB devices, but I can understand why they would recommend you don't use them, particularly if you have a lot of students storing a lot of work.

This is an issue that could affect a shared set of anything i guess, I imagine you'll be able to lock a selection of the set but even thats not going to work well unless you know for sure which ones are in the room. One way I've seen it done(at last years Apple education leadership summit) is by using iBeacons where as you walk into a room the MDM is told which devices are present. This isn't without its flaws though - having gone to the next session after the ibeacon demo I once again got locked to safari when it was being demo'd again...

16gb wise i imagine this is down to shared sets having to have a larger selection of software installed than a 1:1 device would

Surely you asset tag these devices in either MDM or AC so you know where they are who's using them, and which department they are for??

Schools using the name "iPad" for every device well...I would just give up
