MikeGreen Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Afternoon All, I am hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction. We use CRB Cashless catering and upgraded to there new system in September as part of which we now have a Virtual server. We have been having problems on the till side of things when trying to finish the transaction it seems to hang for a while (6/7 seconds for each transaction) I have had Engineers to site who weren't sure on the cause of the issue we have upped the memory etc in the server but no success and as a test the engineer transferred it back to and old physical server and this has solved the issue. From his point of view the virtual server was well spec'd so not sure what the cause was any body had this issue? or know of anything within VMware that we could check? Any help would be great. Kind regards
bennz Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 In all honestly the software is probably not optimized for a virtual environment. Did the Engineers not escalate within CRB to investigate further?
MikeGreen Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Hi thanks for the reply, yes they did it went as far as the software developer who didn't have an answer other than it must be something within VMware we have tried copying a 4gb file to the VM and it takes around 4 minutes copying at around 40mb per second but copying to the physical box takes less than a minute with speeds of 110mb per second. They have said they have hundreds and hundreds of schools running VM's who don't have this issue so they are thinking its a setting in VM but don't know where to start other than checking the transfer speeds.
mavhc Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Verbose logging? Virtual network not running at 1Gbps? Run iperf to test network throughput. Snapshot type things causing extra disk access? Only a single vcpu? resources capped by vm host? Not enough ram in vm/host?
Sylv3r Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 In all honestly the software is probably not optimized for a virtual environment. Did the Engineers not escalate within CRB to investigate further? We've had this running on a virtualised VMWare server for 18 months without a problem. Touch wood, we've not seen any issues of slowdown etc. here.
