Hi there,

I used to be into my PC gaming but haven't played anything for about 5 years now.

Instead of squirrelling myself away to play games, I've decided to get a console for the big tv in the lounge so that its there for everyone.

My problem is that I can't decide between the XBox or the PS and I want to go out and get one then tomorrow.

For those of you that have used both, can you please share your thoughts.

Thanks in anticipation!

I've always been a Playstation man - and have a PS4 now but there isn't a huge amount to choose between them I think. The online experience is allegedly better on the XBox but the PS4 is supposed to be better technically so if you plan to do a lot of online gaming and your friends have XBox's then that is a consideration. There are also those games that are only available on one console to think about - if you fancy playing Halo then the XBox is your only option, but these games are few and far between these days.

I don't think you will go wrong whatever choice you make as they are both very good consoles - but the PS4 is more betterer :D

Will you play online? If so, what do your friends have? Find out and get that.

The hardware in the two is broadly similar, there are a couple of exclusives on either side but broadly speaking, they have largely the same game catalogue.

I've got...er... my son... a PS4 for Christmas, with the thought in the back of my mind that it'll make the purchase of PlayStation VR easier to justify in a few months. Very excited about that!

Not bothered about playing with mates online tbh.

Just me and a bunch of strangers playing Fifa and call of duty etc and I'm happy.

To be honest I am leaning towards the PS but not overly sure why. Lol

Go in Game, they normally have both you can play with, both pretty much have same hardware, just try a few games, key things are the controller and the UI (unless you want to play online with friends, then majority rules)

If it were me, i would choose the PS4, always favoured the PS over anything else. I remember one xmas i got a saturn over the ps1, bad mistake as the saturn just flopped where the ps1 took off. Ever since then its always been PS.

I had a PS1 for Christmas 1995 (the same year the console was released in the UK). Ridge Racer and Wipeout were brilliant. :D

After owning Sega's MegaCD add-on for the MegaDrive I didn't hold out much hope for their subsequent consoles: Saturn and Dreamcast. I am glad I avoided those two!

The next (and last) console I owned was the original Xbox. Since then I have been a PC gamer due to the superior graphics and cheaper games. :)

I would say Nintendo's Wii U is the modern day Saturn. The NX will probably be their last console.

It's hard to go wrong with Microsoft or Sony's current consoles since neither company are going to exit the videogame industry any time soon. Which one you choose depends mainly on the games you want to play.

I always preferred Xbox controllers so I would go with the one tbh. Hate the ps controllers and I have been using the streaming to Windows quite a bit as it means the Xbox can be in the sitting room but I can still use it in the office when I want too. Both are good but I do find Xbox online works better and it's cheaper per year when you buy the codes online as its only about £22 normally I pay.

I guess the best bet is to pick the one with exclusives you want and the platform that your friends are playing on.

As someone who's had both I think that PS4 has slicker hardware/UI design and marginally more powerful hardware plus I much prefer the Sony PS4 controllers. The Xbox's One's controller is too large and feels noticeably cheap and tinny IMO. The Kinnect was a total waste of time and I feel like I was sold a pup buying into it now MS have practically ditched support for it.

However, between Halo and Forza IMO the Xbox One has the better exclusive titles. Online support (via Xbox live) is superior to what Sony offer plus it seems to get hacked less frequently! As mentioned the game streaming is a pretty cool feature if you have a Windows laptop/PC and struggle to get the use of a lounge based console.

Tough call to choose between them really.
