Popular Post Sunnyknight Posted December 16, 2015 Popular Post Posted December 16, 2015 Back after a long time away. As some of you may / may not know, i went away with the hope of being a commercial pilot with BA, Virgin, Emirates or Qatar. First stage i passed everything. Just the basic qualifications needed. Second stage was the exams, i pass all except for maths, which i failed by 3 marks. Re-took it 6 months later (while in work, i didn't sit around!), and passed it all. Wooooohoooo!!! Long story short, my family and i, were ready to sign on the dotted line for the finance, £120,000. I got a phone call a few days later (this was prior to signing), a surprising call, to say that they didn't feel i was motivated enough to continue with the course. Sorry, but what! Yeah, exactly. I explained that even though i failed first time, i had the motivation to go on, improve, and come back and do better. I did just that. I explained that someone who ISN'T motivated, wouldn't be ready to sign away that much money. The lady over the phone said that this is what she got told to say to me, and when i asked if i could speak to someone senior, they weren't available. Chiseled off doesn't describe it, but I've moved on. Looking to go into the RAF in the new year (if they accept me). If not, back to good ol IT...... wo hoo..... haha. How's everyone anyway? 6
X-13 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I got a phone call a few days later (this was prior to signing), a surprising call, to say that they didn't feel i was motivated enough to continue with the course. Oh, look... yet another person with the ability to read minds! Must be something going 'round. [i've literally dealt with this earlier this week...] Sucks that they dropped you with such a BS excuse. Sounds like they'd already made up their mind.
korifugi Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Woah! Welcome back! A ol' 13 says - it looks like they'd already made up their mind and were going with %reasons%, and even if you'd been able to speak to someone about it, you'd just be given more . Good luck with the RAF though, hope it all pans out for you.
ZeroHour Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Welcome back even though things haven't been going quite to plan, its their lose, I am sure the RAF would be grateful to have you though.
rich_tech Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 That does indeed suck looking at what happened to you there, there isn't anything worse than being messed around in interviews, I have some first hand experience in that too lately myself unfortunately and its seriously annoying bordering on depressing when the rug gets pulled like that.
localzuk Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Welcome back!! Come, join us - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/160996-ftb-minecraft-server.html That sucks about your plans. EduWhiskey needed!
Sunnyknight Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 Cheers for the kind words all. Does seem like they fobbed me off, but nothing i can do, or dispute. Well, i can dispute, it'd just be a waste of money i guess. @MatthewL £120,000 to do the course over a year, and at the end of it, have a job waiting for me with one of the airlines.
nikaso Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 From the little knowledge I have on the subject - If you are going to go into the RAF to become a pilot then flying multi-engine jets (tankers etc.) gives you better career options in terms of airlines when leaving the service than fast jets. Good luck with whatever you do anyway!
witch Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Welcome back anyway. I would be interested to see if you could get to someone who could explain their thinking. I hope the RAF proves a better bet and you get where you want to be
Garacesh Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 In all fairness, at least you can spend that 120k on a new PC now. Isn't that about right for your usual budget? xP Sorry to hear that Have you actually gained any official certifications or qualifications that'll help at least get your foot in the door elsewhere?
CAM Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 RAF is all or nothing. Given you were willing to give up that large sum of money for training in commercial piloting, I say you can go for all! Start training now as you have to be a soldier first then a tradesman. But I reckon you'd handle it. I'd have applied for the RAF myself if my eyesight and physical fitness wasn't so bad. And if anyone asks "Do you even lift" reply "Yes, thousands of pounds of thrust and heavy metal."
Smee Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Eldest son is in the RAF, best thing he ever done in his and my opinion. good luck, but also get fit as they will expect you to be able to cover their physical fitness requirements .

Good luck with whatever you do anyway! Yeah, it is supposed to be easily transferable. If you get into the RAF as a pilot, commercial pilots will swoop you up in seconds for perm captains, but i'd still love to stay and fly F35s Welcome back anyway. I would be interested to see if you could get to someone who could explain their thinking. I hope the RAF proves a better bet and you get where you want to be I did try, and they blanked me out. I'm not going to keep on pushing them to give them the satisfaction of me almost begging. What's done is done. Got to move on sometime eh? In all fairness, at least you can spend that 120k on a new PC now. Isn't that about right for your usual budget? xP Sorry to hear that Have you actually gained any official certifications or qualifications that'll help at least get your foot in the door elsewhere? Haha, cheeky bugger! To be honest, i haven't spent much on tech. Most of my own savings has gone on building a summerhouse at the back of our garden and furnishing it. That cost upwards of.... £40,000? £50,000? Can't remember. But yeah, expensive year haha. RAF is all or nothing. And if anyone asks "Do you even lift" reply "Yes, thousands of pounds of thrust and heavy metal." Yeah i'm definitely going to give it my all! All or nothing! I'm primarily looking into Airman, but if that doesn't pan out, maybe look into Regiment Gunner and see what opportunities that opens, i dunno, i suppose a good chat with them will help. I feel for you, having bad eyesight is always upsetting. Nothing you can do about it i guess, unless you get laser eye surgery and wait 3 years to re-apply. Physical fitness is your own fault! Eldest son is in the RAF, best thing he ever done in his and my opinion. good luck, but also get fit as they will expect you to be able to cover their physical fitness requirements . Ahhh nice. It's a 12 year standard commitment isn't it? Must be loving his life travelling everywhere! 1
