Hello, thanks to the lovely people on here I have finally managed to move our iPads over to MDM via Meraki. When I have an iPad at home, I can push out an app via Meraki and it appears on the iPad beautifully. However when I'm in school it doesn't work. Really not a solution but I've been playing around in school and have worked out that if I use my iPhone as wifi hotspot, the app will begin to download and then I can switch back to school wifi for it to fully download. This leads me to think that the issue is possibly to do with the school wifi permissions?? Does this sound right? Our internet is managed by the local authority. Any suggestions on anything specific I can ask them to look at to rectify this (sorry, I'm not techie and don't really understand how this sort of thing works!)

Thanks

Last time I tried meraki mdm behind the LEA broadband (a long time ago) I had throw problem. Definitely something with the firewall / content filtering.

However I tried again last week and they've obviously changed something as it works

I would contact the LEA and check if the relevant ports are open etc. There a list of required ports in the meraki help site

It will be to do with apple ports. It connects via a certain port but the download obviously comes via another unblocked cloud storage. We had this same problem when we first implemented iPads with the iCloud and other service.

If your internet is managed by the local authority you probably have little to no chance of them unblocking the ports in my experience with Norfolk Shared ICT Services, but you can only ask, another school may already have a similar configuration.

We only got it to work once we left them and got our own Smoothwall box and were able to open ports and test them.

Good luck!

I had the same problem using Andriods in Hertfordshire (Updata)

Worked when at home but using the schools network would not connect.

Had the Updata engineers in and they could not fix it

Also unable to use the Google andriod device manager.

In Meraki you can download a file that will show you what ports need to be opened.

Get that and send it over to your ISP
